Custom Boat Flooring
Boat flooring is often the final touch that can make or break you boating experience. At Highland Marine we strive to put the best flooring into your boat for your application.
The crown jewel of boat flooring for leisure boating is EVA foam (sometimes called SeaDek). Not all EVA foam is the same and there are many many brands out there trying to gain your business. After intensive testing and research we decided to carry Marine Mat branded EVA. Marine Mat has many advantages over other brands of EVA such as SeaDek which we tried before switching over to MM.
Marine Mat is one of the larger companies in the North American EVA market with many years of experience providing some of the highest quality EVA marine flooring on the market. Marine Mat is one of the largest OEM flooring suppliers to the boat manufacturing market and only in recent years have really opened their door to doing direct to customer sales through their approved dealers. Marine Mat also boats the largest color selection in the industry as well as several finishes and thicknesses from 3mm to 21mm. Marine Mat also has a patented design that allows their EVA to also have the option of snapping it down vs glue down. This is a great option for some users who want greater flexibility with their floors.
Working with Marine Mat offers us several unique advantages compared to many of our competitors. Foremost is the fact that we can import full sheets of the material and do all the designing and machining ourselves, saving customers time and money. This unique advantage allows us to do very quick turnaround times and full customization. Most competitors have a selling structure where they have fabricators that buy the sheets from the head company, or the head company does all the milling/manufacturing themselves. This obviously raises costs and maybe more importantly creates a potential disconnect from the installer who measures the boat, to the person doing the CAD work and design process to the person who actually puts the sheet onto the machine and does the machining giving the EVA its distinctive look. Bringing all these processes in house allows us to lower end costs to our clients and provide unmatched turnaround times.
Marine Mat uses a proprietary mix of EVA and PE from that allows for a soft feel underfoot but is still solid enough to withstand normal wear and keep superior stain resistance abilities. They also use a proper high strength industrial grade adhesive to ensure that the product stays in place for the long term. This is where customers should ask questions as even cheaper china brands will often have a very weak grade adhesive that will often fail prematurely. We have been working with Marine Mat for several seasons now and have always been more than happy with their product and support. Check out our maintenance page for tips to keep your marine mat looking new for years to come!
However EVA flooring is not a universal solution. EVA struggles in heavy work environments, or sharp clawed pets. EVA is also a weak option for many pontoon boats or older boats with wooden floors. We offer a verity of other flooring options for some of these challenges suck as infinity or compass woven vinyl which is great for pontoon boats or heavier traffic environment's where EVA may not hold up well. Marine grade carpet can also be a timeless classic in older wooden floored boats that if properly cared for can be a great choice. We also offer brands like Sleek Teak that is more of a heavy duty synthetic teak for higher end boats that demand the best of the best, Seaway vinyl flooring is often used for fishing boats offering longevity and durability at a good price.
